Voluntary renunciation of citizenship

Declaration of Voluntary Renunciation of Kenyan Citizenship proceeds from section 19 (1) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011 which provides that where a Kenyan citizen by birth voluntarily makes a declaration of renunciation of Kenyan citizenship, in the prescribed manner, the Cabinet Secretary shall cause the declaration to be registered.

The requirements for Voluntary Renunciation of Kenya citizenship include: –

  1. Submit online application on www.fns.immigration.go.ke
  2. eFNS pre-filled application Form 6 attested to by a Commissioner of Oaths or Notarized with official stamps and
  3. Two processing fee payment receipts .
  4. Three(3) current, clear and un-mounted passport size photographs not less than 6 months. Click for specifications;
    1. Note: 
      • No earing or headgear (no hats)
      •Hair should be away from the face
      •No eyeglasses
  5. Original and copies of Kenyan passport and ID ;
  6. Copy of other country’s passport or proof of citizenship;
  7. Copy of Birth Certificate;
  8. Verify that you have the required document/pre-requisites and you meet the relevant criteria before you apply; and
  9. Complete application documents to be sent to the Embassy for processing via post or dropped at the Embassy reception during working hours
