RE: BEYOND ZERO CAMPAIGN - FIRST LADY HALF MARATHON
As you are aware the Kenya’s First Lady H.E. Margaret Kenyatta is on an all out "Beyond Zero Campaign" which was launched on January 24th, 2014. This initiative aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes in our country and also seeks to accelerate the implementation of the national plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children.

"Beyond Zero Campaign"
is part of the initiatives outlined in the Strategic Framework for the engagement of the First Lady in HIV control and promotion of maternal, newborn and child health in Kenya that was unveiled on the world AIDS Day 2013. The framework aims to galvanize high level leadership in ending new HIV Infections among children and reducing HIV related deaths among women and children in Kenya.

So far donors and private sector organizations have already pledged funds to purchase mobile clinics that will provide integrated HIV, maternal and child outreach services in the country. The support so far is apparently huge going by the media coverage.

In the same vein, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenya wishes to seek for voluntary support towards worthy cause. Well wishers and Kenya diaspora willing to participate can directly send their contributions to the following account:-

DIASPORA UPDATES  5TH AUGUST 2013

UNIVERSITY LOAN REPAYMENT .

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) informs that Loan recoveries have increased reaching peak of Kenya Shillings (Kshs) 3.3 Billion for the Financial year ending June 2013. During the same Period, HELB disbursed Kshs 5.1 Billion that benefitted over 120,000 students both in Public and Private Chartered University.

In the recently concluded Amnesty Campaign, HELB managed to collect over Kshs 620 Million. As you may know, financing higher education students in Kenyan Universities ultimately provides Kenya with the requisite human Capital for successful implementation of VISION 2030.

However, one of the challenges facing HELB is that there are about 89,009 loanees holding about Kshs10.6 Billion and this continues to strain their effort towards universal Higher Education Funding. Some of the loanees are Kenyans in the Diaspora and the Nordic countries are one of them.

In view of the above the mission wishes to inform Kenyans in the Nordic and specifically those who benefitted from Loans from HELB and have not started repaying the same to start remitting their payments to the HELB.

Loanees are kindly advised to visit the HELB website at http://www.helb.co.ke/. The HELB thanks those loanees who have paid their loans and those currently paying and encourages those not paying to do so. This will go a long way in Provision of the extremely needed higher education in Republic of Kenya.

RE: VISION 2030 OPEN LETTER TO KENYANS

Given its role as the state agency charged with the responsibility of facilitating the co-ordination and implementation of our National Development policy, The Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat has seen it fit to send an Open Letter to all Kenyans, to share its views ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The letter is written in light of the fact that the forthcoming general elections are watershed moment for Kenya and particularly for Vision 2030 ideas. It takes cognizance of the fact that the Vision 2030 transcends any government of the day and must therefore be owned by Kenyans of all cultures, races, religions and geographical locations.

The Vision 2030 Open Letter also serves as a passionate appeal to all compatriots to exercise caution and self-responsibility during this period to ensure a peaceful transition. In addition, it seeks to squarely place the obligation to elect responsible competent and skilled leaders whop can guarantee our national prosperity. Leaders who can be held accountable to safeguard our socio-economic growth and leaders who espouse our national values and advocate for issue based campaigns through this period.

As our diplomatic partners play a key role in driving the growth of our country, the letter also seeks to affirm that as a country we are focused on achieving our national development plan. It further seeks to encourage positive conversation among the development partners on the Kenya Vision 2030 during this transition period.

The Open Letter is herby conveyed for your information as well as circulation to Staff and development partners.
